Valor in Verse
Valor in Verse is my first poetry collection, and it remains one of my proudest—but also most vulnerable—works.
These poems come out of the rawest parts of my life: the weight of military service, battles with loss, heartache, and nights I thought I wouldn’t see the morning. Writing these pieces wasn’t just expression—it was survival. Poetry gave me a way to put shape to pain, and in doing so, to begin healing.
This book isn’t about royalties—I don’t take a cent. Every purchase puts two free copies into the hands of veterans, because my mission is simple: to share the same chance at healing that writing gave me.
If you’ve ever carried a burden too heavy for words, or felt alone in the struggle, these pages are for you. They’re scarred, honest, and human. But they bend toward light—proof that no matter how dark it gets, there’s always a way forward.
Hello From the Moon
This book began as a birthday gift for two of the most important people in my life—my niece Morgan Kayte and my nephew Andrew. They call me Uncle Dude, and this was my way of giving them something they could carry long after cake and candles.
Hello From the Moon is my first children’s book, and maybe the most personal thing I’ve written. The story is told through the moon’s voice, guiding little ones across farms and forests, snowy peaks and quiet shores, before bringing them back home to “the little hill.” It’s filled with gentle rhymes, soft illustrations, and small interactive moments meant for kids and the grown-ups who love them.
But at its heart, this book is about something bigger—the bond between family, and the way love can stretch across distance. I wrote it so my niece and nephew would always know, no matter where they are, when they look up at the night sky, I’ll be looking too.
It’s a bedtime story, yes. But it’s also a keepsake. A reminder that the people we love are never really far away.
Sanctuary Delta
Sanctuary Delta was the first book I ever put into the world. I wrote it during my treatment for traumatic brain injury at the Shepherd Center in Atlanta—a time when so much of my life felt uncertain. In the middle of that struggle, this story became a kind of lifeline. It was the moment I realized: writing wasn’t just something I did to pass the time—it was what I was meant to pursue.
The novel takes place in the Mississippi Delta, a place woven into my bones. It’s a feel-good story born in a season when so much around me felt anything but. The Delta has carried its share of hard, painful history, but in these pages I wanted to show its beauty, its resilience, and the hope that still grows from its soil.
Looking back, I can see how much I’ve grown as both a reader and a writer since those days—but Sanctuary Delta will always be special. It’s where the journey began, where I learned that words could carry me through the darkest moments and maybe carry others, too.
If you’ve ever searched for redemption, or longed to come home to yourself, this story is my offering. It’s a reminder that even in broken places, there can be peace.
